OSCE Surgical Skills Workshop

Course Overview

The Surgical OSCE Workshop is an intensive, Five-day program structured to provide medical students and recent graduates with a robust foundation in surgical skills and clinical assessment. Through a mix of lectures, practical sessions,hands-on and role-playing activities, participants will gain the competence and confidence needed to perform effectively in OSCEs and surgical practice.

The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including communication skills, focused history-taking, preoperative and postoperative care, and the management of common surgical conditions.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  1. Communication and Patient Interaction:
    • Master effective communication techniques with patients.
    • Conduct and present focused patient histories.

  1. Preoperative and Postoperative Care:
    • Perform comprehensive preoperative and postoperative assessments.
    • Understand and utilize various types of sutures.

  1. Clinical Examination:
    • Conduct thorough abdominal, thyroid, neck, and breast examinations.
    • Perform arterial and venous examinations.

  1. Surgical Techniques and Management:
    • Understand fluid resuscitation and burn management.
    • Identify stomas, surgical drains, and chest tubes.
    • Described ulcers and diabetic foot conditions.

  1. Clinical Imaging and Surgical Landmarks:
    • Interpret common clinical imaging.
    • Describe surgical scars and incisions.

  1. Practical Skills and Role-Playing:
    • Engage in role-playing scenarios to refine skills.
    • Participate in a mock exam for practical assessment and feedback.
