Does GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Cure Diabetes?
Workshop Overview
This workshop examines whether GLP-1 receptor agonists represent a true cure for diabetes or function primarily as hormone replacement therapy. The workshop reviews current mechanistic evidence demonstrating how GLP-1 analogues improve glycaemic control while metabolic surgery achieves diabetes remission through complex biological reprogramming involving hormonal, microbiome, and metabolic pathways.
Learning Objectives
By participating in this workshop, you will:
- Understand the physiological mechanisms of GLP-1 receptor agonists in diabetes treatment.
- Differentiate between metabolic stabilization and disease reversal.
- Explore the biological mechanisms underlying diabetes remission after metabolic surgery.
- Apply evidence-based insights to clinical decision-making in obesity and diabetes management.
By the end of this workshop, participants are expected to:
-
- Critically evaluate the role of GLP-1 therapies in modern diabetes care.
- Recognize limitations of pharmacological hormone replacement strategies.
- Understand mechanisms of metabolic surgery–induced diabetes remission.
- Integrate current scientific evidence into patient-centered treatment planning.
